Experienced defender Alex Greenwood misses out on England’s Women’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Turkiye on Tuesday.

The official Lionesses Twitter account explained to fans that the Manchester City skipper was suffering from “a minor muscle injury and will continue to be assessed ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Iceland.”

The 32-year-old has over 100 caps for England, and has proved herself invaluable with her versatility, able to play at left back or in the centre of defence, or higher up the pitch if required.

Manchester City’s Grace Clinton is also missing from the matchday squad.

Arsenal’s Leah Williamson is captaining the side, and partnering Gunners team-mate Lotte Wubben-Moy in defence. Maya Le Tissier and Taylor Hinds look set to take the full back roles.

Alessia Russo leads the line, supported by Lauren Hemp and Jess Park, with Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway, and Laura Blindkilde Brown in the middle of the field.

The match kicks off at 5pm UK time.

England will be wearing all-black kits, with goalkeeper Hannah Hampton in orange.

They will also be wearing black armbands in tribute to the late Lynda Hale, one of the women who played in the first official England team in 1972.

There will be no goal-line technology in use, and no video-assisted referee, as per UEFA regulations at this stage of the qualification process.
