PSG’s longest losing run

Paris have lost each of their last four Champions League matches against Bayern, which is their longest losing run against a particular opponent in the competition.

However, it isn’t just recent encounters that should make the French side nervous. Bayern have won eight out of 14 Champions League meetings. That’s more than any other team has done against the Parisians. Should Manuel Neuer & Co. leave the Parc des Princes with three points again on Tuesday, they’ll become the first and only team to win three straight away games at PSG in the Champions League. The Bavarians have in fact not even conceded on their last two visits, winning 1-0 in both April 2021 and February 2023.

40 shots, no goals

PSG have in fact failed to score at all in the last four Champions League games against Bayern. It’s their longest scoring drought ever against an opponent in the competition. The champions of France have fired off 40 shots on goal in those four matches, with 14 being on target, but not a single one breached the Bayern defences.

However, it needs to be noted that PSG are on a six-game winning run in the Champions League, having lifted the trophy for the first time last season. Only once before have they enjoyed such a streak in the competition, when they won their opening six games of 1994/95. The Parisians are also the top scorers in this year’s edition with 13 goals from three games.

Obviously Bayern are going to Paris with the full intention of ending that winning sequence, led by the in-form Harry Kane. He’s got the chance to score in five consecutive Champions League appearances for the first time in his career. It’s a feat only two Bayern players have previously achieved. Arjen Robben did it in 2013, while Robert Lewandowski achieved the feat three times. Kane has six goals across those last four European outings.

Of course it isn’t just Kane who’s enjoying his football at the moment. This whole Bayern team are in seriously good form, winning all 15 competitive fixtures so far this season. The Bavarians will head to Paris full of confidence and intending to continue their run against the defending European champions.
