After an abysmal start to the season that saw them glued to the bottom of the Women’s Super League, Liverpool are now tenth in the table.
They have won four of their WSL matches since the turn of the year, and made it through to the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
And after their 2-0 win over Leicester City last weekend – that kept the Foxes rooted to the foot of the table – Gareth Taylor goes into a meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion full of confidence that his team can get a result.
“On Sunday we make the long trip to Brighton and they are a team that are having a bit of an indifferent season,” he told the club website.
“We know they are a good team with good individuals and it’s never an easy away game, but I think it’s a game we will go into full of confidence. Certainly now with that big win over Leicester, we start to look up the table.”
Liverpool are just four points behind both Brighton and Aston Villa now.
And reflecting on the win over Leicester, Taylor said: “It was really pleasing to get the victory against Leicester because there was a lot of anxiety around this game and we knew the importance of what it meant to win it.
“Coming off the back of the internationals, I thought the girls trained really well all week and I thought we started the game really well, had a lot of attempts and probably should have worked their goalkeeper a bit more with the opportunities that we had.”
Brighton have not won in the WSL since January, when they beat Everton 1-0. Since then, they have lost three on the bounce – against London City Lionesses, West Ham United, and defending champions Chelsea. However, Brighton have also put together a good cup run to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
