Memphis Depay wore a headband carrying the number 80 in blue during Corinthians’ Libertadores defeat against Platense, part of a KLM campaign marking 80 years of operations in Brazil.

Meu Timao reports that Corinthians helped devise the commercial agreement with the airline and the forward, treating it as a one-off that used only the player’s image.

The club chose to pass the entire fee to the Dutchman, because his contract guarantees a minimum annual sum for marketing and image use. As the KLM activation used no club properties, such as kit branding or institutional exposure, keeping any share would later require a top-up to meet that minimum.

Internally, the board believes Memphis’s recent profile could open further deals for Corinthians. The club also welcomes his closer ties with Ezze Seguros, a sponsor, after he took part in activations for a new product.

Depay is contracted until 31 July, and the board are working on an extension. The expectation is that a new agreement could be settled before the World Cup, with the player keen to remain and assisting in the search for partners to help fund it.

He will miss Saturday’s meeting with Grêmio in the 18th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, travelling on Thursday to join the Netherlands squad for World Cup preparations. He has played 79 matches, with 40 wins, 18 draws and 21 defeats, plus 15 goals and 20 assists. Honours include the 2025 Paulista and Copa do Brasil, and the 2026 Supercopa do Brasil.
