Tyrese Campbell has become the subject of transfer speculation ahead of the summer window
Sheffield United are effectively out of promotion contention this season after a poor run of form in March.
The Blades had been aiming to play their way back up to the play-off places following a poor start to the campaign under Ruben Selles.
Chris Wilder returned in September after departing following the club’s defeat to Sunderland in the play-off final in May.
The 58-year-old is in his third stint in charge at Bramall Lane, and he will now be turning his attention to the summer transfer window.
The gap to the top six is likely insurmountable at this stage, and the team are also unlikely to be dragged back down into a relegation scrap.
This allows Sheffield United to start work early on their plans for the upcoming summer market, with their sights set on returning to the promotion fight next year.

The future of Tyrese Campbell has become the subject of speculation ahead of the summer transfer window.
The forward has been linked with a move to either Rangers or Celtic after a difficult second year at Bramall Lane.
But Wilder has hinted that he is keen to see the 26-year-old stay at Bramall Lane, as he enters the final 12 months of his current contract.
Campbell is currently suffering from a fitness issue, and the Sheffield United boss has claimed that his goal is to get the player back to his very best next season.
“He's under contract,” said Wilder, via The Star.
“Those discussions that will be going on and if he's with us, then I will be demanding.
“I won't be asking.
“There'll be no shortcuts for anybody.
“But getting Ty back up to the levels in the season that he had last season, will be key.
“And if I do and we do, then we've got a really good player on our hands.
“But the future will take care of itself.”
Campbell joined Sheffield United in the 2024 summer transfer market as a free agent following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The forward made the switch from Stoke City, and he contributed 10 goals and one assist from 33 regular league appearances in his first year with the Yorkshire outfit.
But defeat to Sunderland in the play-off final ensured that the Blades remained in the second tier.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Campbell, but his current contract with Sheffield United is set to expire in June 2027.
This could open the door for the club to cash in on the striker in order to avoid losing him as a free agent.
Until then, Wilder will be hoping that he can get back to his best so that the club can end the campaign on a positive note going into the summer.

Campbell hasn’t had the best second season at the club, taking a step backwards compared to last year.
However, he’s still proven at this level and he could be quite a useful asset to have in the squad if he can get back to his best.
He’s more than capable of contributing goals to a team pushing for promotion if he can rediscover his form, but it could be quite tempting to cash in if Rangers or Celtic come with a significant enough offer.
The risk of losing him for nothing in 2027 isn’t as financially damaging for the Blades, in theory, because he was signed as a free agent, but Sheffield United will also want to avoid feeling like they missed out on a tidy windfall if he continues to struggle in Wilder’s side next season.
