Less than 24 hours after Thursday's 1-0 win over Barra, Yuri Alberto moved to clarify his post-match comment that he could leave Corinthians mid-season.

According to Meu Timao, the striker said his words reflected a long-held career ambition rather than any current movement, and that there are no proposals on the table.

He added that any future move would only happen if it suited both him and the club, and stressed he will honour the shirt while he remains.

On Thursday he had spoken of chasing new goals in European football, and he also has an agreement with president Osmar Stabile to leave should a good proposal arrive.

Alberto holds Italian citizenship, so he would not count as a foreign player in European Union countries, and he has been sounded out over a possible Italy call-up.

He joined Corinthians in July 2022 on loan from Zenit in Russia, later signing permanently after impressing, and his form since has fluctuated.

He has played 231 matches, scoring 82 goals and providing 23 assists, winning the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Supercopa do Brasil, and scoring in each competition.

Those numbers also make him the all-time top scorer at Neo Química Arena and the club’s leading scorer of the 21st century.
