Real Madrid could be in the market for a new forward player during the upcoming summer transfer window. They have been heavily linked with Michael Olise, but with a move for the Bayern Munich man unlikely to happen in 2026, they could turn their attention elsewhere – especially if they start to prepare for life without Vinicius Junior, whose contract expires in 12 months’ time.
As far as Olise alternatives go, one player Real Madrid could go for is Yan Diomande. The club’s chief scout Juni Calafat is said to have watched the RB Leipzig man at the 2026 World Cup, where he has been competing at an impressive level for Ivory Coast.
At this stage, Real Madrid’s interest in Diomande is not advanced, which is why it is bad news that Liverpool are pushing hard to sign him. However, they can take comfort in the fact that the 19-year-old would prefer a move to the Bernabeu, as reported by El Debate. He is said to be a Real Madrid fan, and his experiences of La Liga with Leganes means that he would be more comfortable in Spain compared to England.
It’s been reported that Real Madrid are willing to spend €220m on OIise, but when it comes to Diomande, half of that could be enough. Leipzig have already turned down a €100m offer from Liverpool, with the likelihood being that €110-120m proposal would be more open to being accepted by the Bundesliga club.
Diomande has shown an impressive level since moving to Germany, but it’s clear that in the €100m+, Real Madrid would also be paying for potential. At 19, he has many chances to be one of the best players in the world in the coming years, which is something that Bernabeu bosses will consider before possibly making a move.
