13-year-old dies as fountain collapses during World Cup celebrations in Ciudad Rodrigo | OneFootball

A 13-year-old has died and another is in a serious condition after a fountain collapsed during World Cup celebrations in Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, in the early hours.

EFE reports that the masonry fountain at the Glorieta del Árbol Gordo fractured at about 00.30, with around 50 people gathered to celebrate Spain’s victory.

Emergency services received multiple calls at about 00.33. Police, the Civil Guard, provincial firefighters and Sacyl medical teams were sent to the scene.

The injured minors were taken to the local health centre. One was confirmed dead. Another, who suffered a broken leg, was transferred to the hospital in Salamanca, while a third was treated and discharged.

A psychological intervention group was activated to support the family of the deceased.
