Petrik Sander’s relegation-threatened side continued their newfound momentum, as goals from Lubambo, Baris Atik and a Mateusz Żukowski brace sealed a convincing victory, tightening the battle at the bottom in the process.

Magdeburg set their intentions early and never looked like relinquishing control, taking the lead after just seven minutes. Herbert Bockhorn’s cross from the right byline travelled to the far post, where Silas Gnaka Musonda arrived to nod past Timo Horn and make it 1-0.

The hosts continued to dominate possession and dictate the tempo. Aside from Farid Alfa-Ruprecht forcing Dominik Reimann into a sharp fingertip save, Bochum offered very little going forward.

Baris Atik then delivered a sucker punch on the stroke of half-time to double the lead. A long ball from Marcus Mathisen found him inside the area, and he controlled superbly before delicately lifting the ball beyond the onrushing Horn to make it 2-0.

Bochum gave themselves a lifeline 11 minutes after the restart. Koji Miyoshi drove forward down the right before picking out Philipp Hofmann, who turned smartly and fired a left-footed effort past Reimann, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished, however, as Magdeburg reasserted their dominance in the final stages. With 71 minutes played, Atik led a swift counter down the left and slipped the ball to Żukowski, who took a touch before calmly finishing into the bottom corner for 3-1.

Just two minutes later, Żukowski struck again. Bochum carelessly surrendered possession straight from kick-off, allowing Richmond Tachie to feed the Polish forward on the right side of the box, where he produced another composed finish to make it 4-1 and put the result beyond doubt.

It marks a superb second consecutive victory for Magdeburg, lifting them out of the bottom three and up to 13th place. For Bochum, a second straight defeat leaves them glancing nervously over their shoulder, now just four points clear of the relegation zone in 10th.
