Liverpool are plotting changes to their midfield ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot has been lacking that special something in the middle third this season following on from the club’s stunning 2024/25 Premier League title win.

The likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have faded since last season while there is an uncertain contract situation to resolve over Curtis Jones.

The Anfield club could therefore make a move for a No6 or a No8 - freshening up a midfield that last had a refit back in 2023. One name which emerged earlier this week was that of Malik Tillman.

Liverpool want deal for Malik Tillman

The 23-year-old USA international is currently starring for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga - who he joined from PSV last summer when Florian Wirtz left for Liverpool.

A report from Sports Boom suggested that the German-born midfielder had been identified by Reds’ recruiters to lead the midfield rebuild.

Now another report from Germany claims that Tillman has got his heart set on a move to the Premier League this summer.

Fussballdaten states that Arsenal and Aston Villa are both keen on adding the former Rangers star - while AC Milan are also named as potential suitors.

While Leverkusen are not right now willing to face a sale the report adds that the German club’s hand will be forced if the right bid materialises - just like in the case of Wirtz

Tillman wants around £200k per week

“The message is clear: A sale is currently out of the question,” the report reads.

“Nevertheless, the club remains committed to its rational transfer policy – should the player's career plans and the size of potential offers reach new heights, this stance could change.

“Leverkusen has set a high bar for interested parties. Given his market value and potential, their internal asking price is around €45 to €55 million. The upcoming 2026 World Cup, where Tillman is expected to play a key role for the USA, further strengthens the club's negotiating position.”

The attacking midfielder has scored six goals in the German top flight this season - and looks ready to take the next step in his career.
