Social media went into overdrive last week. Rumour monger Indy Kaila dropped a big update on X, claiming Jarrod Bowen’s representatives held face-to-face talks with Everton officials over a potential summer move to Goodison Park. The 29-year-old winger is considering his options after West Ham United’s shock relegation to the Championship. Everyone in the top flight is watching this one.

Everton face a waiting game as Jarrod Bowen’s stall continues

The versatile forward banged in 20 G/A across all competitions last term. He did that in a side that went down. Remarkable form, really. Yet despite his agents meeting the Merseyside brass, the England international is digging his heels in. He won’t rush. The report reveals Bowen is deliberately stalling on the Toffees. Why? Because he is holding out for a Champions League club to table a concrete bid before he signs anything.

West Ham hold all the cards here. Bowen has a contract until 2030, and crucially, it features no relegation wage-cut clause. The Hammers have already laughed off early, lowball offers from suitors.

Why David Moyes must avoid a protracted chase for the winger?

David Moyes has a massive rebuilding job on his hands at Goodison Park. It is a delicate situation, worsened by tense contract standoffs with current players like Iliman Ndiaye. Courting a player who openly treats Everton as a backup option is dangerous. It risks poisoning the dressing room before pre-season even kicks off.

Look at the targets. Bowen netted 20 G/A last year and commands a hefty valuation north of £40m. Is he worth the drama?

Moyes knows the player inside out from their London Stadium days. Sentimentality cannot cloud his judgement. The recruitment team needs to fix gaping holes in the squad immediately. They should be looking at realistic, hungry targets instead, like Strasbourg fullback Guela Doue.

Everton simply cannot afford to spend two months dancing to the tune of a player waiting for a better phone call from a top-four club. Boardroom sanity must prevail. Give Bowen a strict, short deadline. If he keeps dragging his feet, walk away. Protect the squad. Moyes needs players who see the blue shirt as a privilege, not a consolation prize.
