There is little doubt that a midfielder, or possibly two, will leave Manchester City this summer. Elliot Anderson has arrived at City this summer from Nottingham Forest. The England international figures to be a prominent player for Enzo Maresca’s side. If Rodri stays he’ll be vital for City. Mateo Kovacic is set to remain at City for next season. Then there is Nico Gonzalez, Rico Lewis, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Nico O’Reilly and Tijjani Reijnders who could all play a role in Manchester City’s midfield. Looking at those players, Tijjani Reijnders seems likely to leave Manchester City this summer.

Tijjani Reijnders seems to be the odd man out in Manchester City’s midfield mix. Especially if City sign another midfielder or two this summer. Nottingham Forest have now been credited with an interest in signing the Dutch international. It is a move that makes sense both for Reijnders and Manchester City.

Simon Jones has reported for the Daily Mail that Tijjani Reijnders has emerged as a legitimate transfer target for Nottingham Forest. It is reported that Forest are considering paying £55 million for Reijnders. Manchester City signed Reijnders from AC Milan last summer for £46.5 million, Jones further reports. Furthermore, Jones reports that Atletico Madrid did have an interest in signing Reijnders but were put off by Manchester City’s asking price for the Dutch midfielder.

It does make sense that Manchester City will sell Tijjani Reijnders especially for the price reported.

It is hard to see a consistent role in Enzo Maresca’s squad for Tijjani Reijnders. There is too much competition for places in the Manchester City midfield for Reijnders, especially for the role that Reijnders plays in midfield. A summer move would likely suit Reijnders who would want to play on a regular basis rather than be a squad player for City. Simon Jones also reports that Reijnders is open to a move this summer that provides him with an opportunity to play on a regular basis.

Also, if Manchester City could either get their money back for Tijjani Reijnders, or make a profit that would represent good business. If Forest are willing to spend £55 million on Reijnders, that is a good deal for both parties. Forest would be getting a midfielder that they need. City would be selling a player that doesn’t seem to fit their squad.

Nottingham Forest reportedly have an interest in signing Tijjani Reijnders from Manchester City this summer. Reijnders does seem to be a player that City could sell in the coming weeks so it is a story that seems to have legs at this stage of the summer.
