Nottingham Forest have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as the window enters its final stretch, with Oliver Glasner prioritising midfield reinforcements.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest are showing interest in the 28-year-old to give Glasner the technical profile he wants, although they face competition from leading European clubs.

Newcastle United explored a deal in June but have not advanced talks, which leaves Forest room to push, though the cost of any package remains a major obstacle.

Juventus are firmly in the frame, and Turkish champions Galatasaray are also weighing a move, viewing Reijnders as a potential replacement for Gabriel Sara if he departs. It has been suggested the Istanbul side are prepared to meet a reported €9m salary.

Uncertainty over Reijnders’ role at City following Enzo Maresca’s arrival has encouraged suitors. His first season brought 50 appearances in all competitions, seven goals and eight assists, though his form dipped after the new year.

City are understood to want around €64m, which would represent a modest profit on the €55m paid to AC Milan last summer. Reijnders is under contract until 2030, and Forest, Juventus and Galatasaray are monitoring developments.
