Jonas Urbig is becoming one of FC Bayern’s leading goalkeepers – and is also a source of joy for 1. FC Köln, who continue to benefit from the rise of their former goalkeeper thanks to special bonus agreements
The 22-year-old is now one of the most exciting German goalkeepers and has long since become the focus of attention in Munich. Should Urbig even play a competitive match for the German national team in the future, FC Köln would again receive a sum in the millions according to the corresponding transfer agreement, as reported by the Kölner Stadtanzeiger
After his strong performance in recent months, the discussion about a World Cup nomination is becoming increasingly intense
In the recent 1:0 win against Wolfsburg, Urbig showed once again why the Munich faithful hold him in such high regard. The substitute for the injured Manuel Neuer saved Bayern’s victory with several brilliant saves and prevented them from going behind several times before the break
Sky pundit Lothar Matthäus was impressed afterwards: „Urbig played a world-class game. I hope Julian Nagelsmann is watching.“
In fact, the Bayern keeper now seems to have a serious chance of getting a ticket to the World Cup. With Marc-André ter Stegen still missing through injury, the hierarchy in the German goal is not completely fixed
Oliver Baumann is currently the number one, with Alexander Nübel, Noah Atubolu, Finn Dahmen and Jonas Urbig battling it out for the other places
The numbers also speak in favor of the Bayern keeper: Urbig has conceded just 21 goals in 18 Bundesliga games and has impressed with strong performances in the Bundesliga, cup and Champions League

Urbig’s development is also a financial gain for 1. FC Köln
The goalkeeper trained at FC between 2012 and January 2025 before moving to FC Bayern. The deal apparently included various bonus payments linked to appearances and sporting success
According to the deal, Cologne will not only cash in on the keeper’s appearances for Bayern, but also if he makes his DFB debut. As soon as he plays a match for the national team, Bayern will have to pay FC an additional €1 million, according to the Kölner Stadtanzeiger
FC Köln will also receive a further two million euros, as Urbig has played 30 competitive matches for FC Bayern. The record champions paid a fixed transfer fee of seven million euros in January 2025, which could rise to a total of up to 15 million euros if all additional clauses are met
Munich will certainly be able to cope with these additional payments worth millions, as Urbig’s market value has risen from three to 15 million euros since his transfer – with a strong upward trend
Sporting director Christoph Freund recently praised him highly: „He is an absolute top goalkeeper. He deserves it – and he has the quality.“
