Uncertainty still surrounds the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. On Thursday, the head of Kenya’s organizing committee expressed support for the idea of postponing the tournament.

The chairman of Kenya’s organizing committee for AFCON 2027 does not oppose delaying the event until 2028. Nicholas Musonye told AFP on Thursday that postponing the tournament "would be beneficial for Kenya." He specifically cited the legislative and presidential elections scheduled for August 2027 in Kenya as a major factor. He stated: "We have observed the tense atmosphere that surrounds these elections in Tanzania, Uganda, and even in Kenya. It would not be possible to guarantee security for a major tournament like the Africa Cup of Nations," emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

This statement stands in contrast to the remarks of the CAF president, who has expressed confidence that the tournament will go ahead as scheduled in 2027.
