Alexander Isak Transfer Twist: Agent Speaks as Liverpool Lurk with Record-Breaking Intent

Isak’s Agent Breaks Silence Amid Heavy Interest

Liverpool’s summer spending spree may not be over just yet. Following the £116 million capture of Florian Wirtz, the reigning Premier League champions are reportedly prepared to break the British transfer record once again – this time, for Newcastle United’s prolific frontman, Alexander Isak.

Despite Newcastle’s firm stance that the Swedish striker is not for sale, interest from Anfield refuses to fade. Now, Isak’s agent Gonzalo Gaitan has fuelled further speculation with revealing comments to Saudi Arabian outlet Arriyadiyah.

“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gaitan confirmed. “Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.”

This ambiguous response has left the door open to a potential departure, with Liverpool ready to pounce should any encouragement come from St. James’ Park.

Howe Plays It Safe Amid Uncertainty

Isak’s absence from Newcastle’s 4-0 pre-season defeat to Celtic only intensified speculation. Manager Eddie Howe addressed the omission post-match, acknowledging that the striker was sent home due to the mounting uncertainty.

“The last thing Alex wants if he is not playing is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny,” Howe stated. “Both [Joelinton and Isak] are fit but not ready to play. Alex has trained and is fine but we didn’t want to take the risk with him.”

Howe was quick to quell concerns over any fallout, instead praising Isak’s professionalism and commitment during training.

“Alex has been really good… he loves the players, the staff, the team. I’ve never had any issue with him and I’m confident he’s going to be here at the start of the season.”

Yet, with Liverpool circling and Newcastle reportedly eyeing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt as a potential £82 million alternative, the Magpies’ resolve could face its stiffest test of the summer.

Isak’s Rise to Elite Status

Since his £63 million move from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s most clinical forwards. With 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, including one against Liverpool in last season’s Carabao Cup final, his trajectory has only gone upward.

Aged just 25, his blend of pace, composure, and technical ability makes him an ideal fit for a top-level pressing side like Liverpool – especially under Arne Slot’s new regime, which prizes attacking dynamism and forward rotation.

Record Deal or Waiting Game?

With an asking price believed to exceed £125 million, Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak hinges on Newcastle’s willingness to entertain offers – and on the player himself signalling a desire to move.

For now, there’s no clear resolution, but Gaitan’s comments suggest talks are very much alive behind the scenes. With over six weeks remaining in the transfer window, this one could go the distance.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this report feels like a mix of excitement and cautious realism. Isak would be an elite-level addition – no doubt about it. He has Premier League pedigree, physical presence, and finishing instincts that could thrive in a revamped Liverpool front line. At 25, he fits FSG’s ideal age profile too.

But the £125 million fee? That’s massive, especially considering the recent £116 million splash on Wirtz. Unless sales are imminent – potentially Luis Díaz or Darwin Núñez – such an outlay again would be out of character. The fact that Liverpool are also exploring Hugo Ekitike as a cheaper option suggests that while Isak is admired, he may not be seen as the only answer.

The agent’s comments also feel more strategic than revelatory. Leaving all options open keeps leverage high – whether for a new deal at Newcastle, or a last-minute move abroad (with Saudi interest also noted). And Eddie Howe’s guarded but respectful tone only deepens the uncertainty.

If Isak truly is available – and willing – Liverpool fans would love to see him at Anfield. But as it stands, this saga looks like one that could go to the wire, with many moving parts still to fall into place.
