Leeds United and Hull City are likely to discuss Joe Gelhardt’s future, and a former Hull forward turned agent says he could be effective in the Premier League if a permanent switch happens this summer.
"Joe Gelhardt, I think he's a very, very good player. I think he can play in the Premier League. He never really had that opportunity."
He was speaking on the 1904 Club podcast.
"He had a flash with it with Leeds. I think he's ready to play in the Premier League, and he can be effective. You look at Jarrod Bowen, who's a left-footed right-winger who's scored goals in the Premier League."
Gelhardt has spent the last 18 months on loan at Hull across two spells, returning last summer and scoring 15 in 42 as the Tigers won promotion by beating Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final.
At Leeds he made six starts and 29 cameos across two Premier League seasons, though he did score a late winner against Norwich City in March 2022 during their survival push.
Hull may want a permanent deal but there is no purchase option in his loan, and last summer’s EFL embargo prevented a fee being agreed, so any price now must be negotiated.
Leeds sought between three and four million pounds last year and could ask more after his 15-goal campaign. They paid one million pounds to sign him from Wigan in 2020 and his Elland Road deal expires next summer.
