According to Superdeporte, Albacete have signed 30-year-old Munir El Haddadi to bolster their attack. It follows Jefté Betancor’s move to UD Las Palmas and the arrival of Mario Soberón from Real Zaragoza.
The forward was a free agent after his spell in Iran with Esteghlal, where he scored four goals. He returns to Spain to strengthen the Carlos Belmonte side’s frontline.
His versatility allows him to play on either flank or lead the line. This makes him a significant addition and a step up for the squad.
This will be his first campaign in the Segunda División. The Morocco international has extensive experience in Spain with Barcelona, Valencia, Deportivo Alavés, Sevilla, Getafe, Las Palmas and Leganés, and has played in Europe with Barcelona and Sevilla. He has 400 senior matches behind him.
Carlos Belmonte will now host two European champions in the same squad. Centre-back Jesús Vallejo arrived last season after leaving Real Madrid, bringing two Champions Leagues from 2018 and 2022.
Munir also arrives decorated, having won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020 and the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015. His Valencia stint was turbulent. He joined late in the 16/17 window on loan from Barcelona, filling the gap left by Paco Alcácer’s departure to the Camp Nou, and made 36 appearances with seven goals and four assists.
