According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Murcia-born star has been spotted by travelling supporters in the US capital, with some stopping for photos.

He is in the final stages of recovering from a right wrist injury sustained in April and has taken a short break to attend such a historic occasion.

A committed sports fan from El Palmar, he is a regular at Real Murcia football, UCAM Murcia basketball and El Pozo Murcia futsal. After watching the tournament from home, the seven-time Grand Slam champion will now support the national team's bid for a second star.

This week he entered his first event since the injury, and his comeback appears likely to be in Cincinnati in the first week of August, which would be a step towards the US Open, scheduled for 30 August to 13 September.

Since that update, he has taken a few days off, spending time on the Naples coast with friends before heading to the United States for the final.
