Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed Levi Colwill and Geovany Quenda were left out of the squad to face Luton Town not due to injury.

Alonso said there were “no issues” with the pair, but explained Colwill is being carefully managed following his serious knee injury which kept him out for most of last season.

“No, there were no issues. Our plan is that they are training tomorrow, preparing for Sunday,” Alonso said.

“With Levi, we know that three games in a week after the injury, he needs to go taking the right steps, so we don’t want to push him too much, so that he doesn’t get stressed too much and he feels comfortable as well.”

The Chelsea manager also provided a positive update on Moises Caicedo’s fitness ahead of their meeting with Brighton.

The midfielder is expected to train before the game as Chelsea assess whether he will be available for the weekend.

“He’s training, hopefully training tomorrow, and we are hopeful that he can be involved,” Alonso said.

“We need to check, still no decision made.”
