"We had lost the spark, and we could no longer perform," said Andy Robertson. Diogo Jota died in a road accident.
"It is hard to describe or talk about because what we lived through was horrible. It was as if the new signings were arriving at a club with a broken heart," he told The Overlap.
"I felt so sorry for those lads, they had signed for colossal sums. It took them months to adapt because we did not care about football. That was the truth, we did not care because we had just lost one of our best mates in the dressing room."
After winning their 20th English title, Liverpool spent 480 million euros in summer 2025. Hugo Ekitike impressed, while Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak struggled as form dipped across 2025-26.
"From seeing him on the happiest day of his life to seeing his family devastated the week after," Robertson said. Liverpool finished 5th in the Premier League that season.
