Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou insists pressure over his future “does not enter [his] head” despite a winless start to life at the City Ground, as reported by Sky Sports.
Forest’s 3-2 defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday stretched Postecoglou’s run to six matches without victory, and chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” were heard from sections of the home support. Yet, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle, the Australian struck a defiant tone.
“I get it [speculation about his job] and it is a valid assumption in modern football,” Postecoglou said. “But I do not think that way. Put it this way, I knew I was getting sacked at Tottenham about three or four months before I did, and it did not stop me winning something. It does not enter my head. My responsibility lies in making sure this club progresses.”
Postecoglou, who led Tottenham to Europa League glory last season before being dismissed just 16 days later, has urged patience as he implements a new style at Forest. He stressed that timelines and speculation are distractions that hinder progress.
“At the end of the day, the things I control are the environment, the training, the way we play,” he said. “I am still very strong in my belief that we are not too far away.”
While pressure mounts, Postecoglou remains focused on building long-term stability rather than immediate results. Postecoglou’s side will next face Newcastle United away from home on Sunday as they return to Premier League action.
