Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani could end his collaboration with the Italian capital club and make his return to Salernitana.
The 64-year-old worked for a host of Italian clubs during his career, but his eight-year spell in Salerno was arguably his most memorable. He joined the Granata in 2014 and was the architect of the squad that secured a long-awaited promotion to Serie A in 2021.
Afterwards, Claudio Lotito was forced to sell the club, as rules prevent the same person or entity from owning two Serie A clubs. Lotito’s exit also prompted Fabiani’s departure from Salernitana. The 64-year-old was then appointed as Lazio’s Director of Youth Development in 2022, before assuming the role of sporting director a year later following Igli Tare’s departure.
According to Il Messaggero, Fabiani will likely part ways with the Biancocelesti at the end of the season, despite having one year left on his contract. The club has endured a woeful campaign, culminating with a defeat to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia final, followed by a Derby della Capitale loss against Roma on Sunday.
Therefore, Lotito could decide to ring the changes, ending his collaboration with his longtime associate, in addition to Maurizio Sarri, who is also expected to depart, especially following his latest remarks, when he expressed his dissatisfaction with his status at the club.
The Roman newspaper adds that Salernitana are considering bringing Fabiani back to the club. The Granata are currently taking part in the Serie C playoffs, as they hope to secure a promotion to Serie B.
The source adds that fans in Salerno hold contrasting views of the Roman director, with some rejecting his return due to personal issues, while others recognise his achievements at the club and the steep decline that followed his departure.
