Ouest-France reports that Angers have made Stéphane Gilli their leading candidate to replace Alexandre Dujeux, who was released on Wednesday evening after a little over three years in charge. The former Paris FC coach is the priority for sporting director Laurent Boissier.
The club had planned for Dujeux’s departure and began sounding out alternatives, including Gilli. Angers are expected to look outside the club to fill the vacancy. A deadline of 10 June has been set to secure a new coach before pre-season, with players due back on 9 July and on-pitch work from the 11th.
Angers finished 13th in Ligue 1. Despite expressing a wish to keep Dujeux, 50, he feared staying on too long after winning promotion then preserving top-flight status in consecutive seasons.
Gilli, 52, has been unattached since February. He was also mentioned at FC Metz in Ligue 2 in May. No agreement has been signed.
Another option is Stéphane Moulin, manager from 2011 to 2021, who has recently moved back to live in Anjou.
