Alexandre Dujeux has left Angers by mutual consent after three and a half years in charge, despite an automatic extension to June 2028 after securing survival. He is now out of contract this summer, with several Ligue 1 clubs tracking his situation.
The separation was confirmed on Wednesday. According to L'Équipe, talks were calm and ended with no compensation for either party, after the 50-year-old weighed up his future. He had been given a 10 June deadline to decide, but moved sooner.
He is said to view this as the end of a cycle, having poured his energy into a limited-budget side and built a strong bond with fans. His stock has risen amid TV-rights austerity, after back-to-back finishes of 14th then 13th with progressive play.
Nice are regarded as the keenest suitors, having considered him last winter to replace Franck Haise before choosing Claude Puel, who knew the club and was available. His name features on Lens’s shortlist and continues to be discussed within the Nice hierarchy. The move carries risk, with no certainty of a role this summer, but he is available on the market.
There have been no concrete contacts, with Nice not yet thought to have launched a formal process with interviews and negotiations. A takeover, at least partial, appears increasingly likely, and if completed any appointment would need approval from prospective new shareholders from an American investment fund in talks with Ineos, the owner.
