A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona was forced to sit out group training for the 2nd day in succession on Friday.

The player in question? Jules Koundé.

Barcelona are of course currently in the thick of preparations for their most high-profile outing of the campaign to date this weekend.

On Sunday evening, the Blaugrana will make the trip to Spain’s capital, for a La Liga showdown with arch rivals Real Madrid.

Barca head into the matchup trailing Los Blancos by two points at the summit of the table.

In efforts to reclaim their place atop the standings, however, Hansi Flick and co. could yet be forced to make do without a key member of their backline.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Jules Koundé played no part in training in Catalunya’s capital on Friday.

This is the 2nd day running on which the Frenchman has been absent from group drills.

His participation in El Clásico, though not ruled out, therefore appears to be somewhat up in the air as things stand.
