Anton Stach says he hopes to be back soon after an ankle injury in Leeds United’s FA Cup quarter-final win at West Ham.

The midfielder was hurt in the first half after his shot was saved by Alphonse Areola and he was caught by Max Kilman. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, referee Craig Pawson did not award a penalty and VAR judged it a natural coming together.

Stach received treatment, returned, then was replaced by Brenden Aaronson. He later posted an image of a swollen ankle on Instagram with a caption implying he had been accused of exaggerating the contact, and on Monday he thanked fans and said he hoped to be back soon and ready to play.

Leeds were 1-0 up at the time and on top in midfield, with Stach and Ao Tanaka prominent, Tanaka having opened the scoring after smart footwork. After Aaronson’s introduction, Leeds lost control. Having gone 2-0 ahead through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty, they conceded twice in added time before winning 4-2 on penalties, with Lucas Perri saving from Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Felipe.

Stach will be assessed this week. Daniel Farke said after full-time he expects a ligament issue, making the German a serious doubt for Manchester United on Monday, though he hoped the damage was not severe.

Farke also reported that Joe Rodon rolled an ankle and was replaced by Sebastiaan Bornauw. Noah Okafor went off with cramps after a long hamstring lay-off, and the manager indicated there was no immediate concern.
