Anton Stach says he hopes to be back soon after suffering an ankle injury in Leeds United’s FA Cup quarter-final win at West Ham. The midfielder posted the update on Instagram on Monday evening.

He was hurt late in the first half after a heavy late challenge from Max Kilman, moments after Alphonse Areola saved his effort. Referee Craig Pawson did not award a penalty, and VAR called it a natural coming together. He received treatment, briefly returned, then Brenden Aaronson replaced him.

On Sunday he had shared a picture of his swollen right ankle on Instagram with a caption of “stop acting”, suggesting he had been accused of exaggerating the contact.

Leeds were 1-0 up at the time and controlling midfield, with Stach and Ao Tanaka to the fore. Tanaka opened the scoring with smart footwork, then after Aaronson’s introduction Leeds went 2-0 up through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty. West Ham hit back with two goals in added time, before Leeds won 4-2 on penalties as Lucas Perri denied Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Felipe.

Stach will be assessed this week, and Daniel Farke said it is probably a ligament problem, leaving the German a serious doubt for Manchester United on Monday. He added: “We have to assess how bad it is. I hope it’s not too bad, he was running the game.”

Farke also confirmed Joe Rodon rolled his ankle and will be checked, with Sebastiaan Bornauw coming on. Noah Okafor went off in the second half, but the manager said it looked like cramps after his long absence and that there is time before the next game.
