Anton Stach suffered an ankle injury in Leeds United’s FA Cup quarter-final win at West Ham, leaving the midfielder a serious doubt for Manchester United on Monday.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the German rolled his right ankle late in the first half after a heavy late challenge from Max Kilman, moments after Alphonse Areola saved his effort when through on goal.
Referee Craig Pawson did not award a penalty and VAR upheld the on-field call, judging the contact a coming together. Stach received treatment, briefly returned, then made way for Brenden Aaronson.
He later posted a photo of a badly swollen right ankle on Instagram, with a caption dismissing claims he had overplayed the contact.
A further update on Monday carried a typically quirky image and a message that he hopes to return soon, celebrating progression and looking to Wembley.
Leeds led 1-0 at the time, dominating midfield with Stach and Ao Tanaka, who opened the scoring after fine footwork. They went 2-0 up through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty, then conceded twice in added time before winning the shootout 4-2, Lucas Perri denying Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Felipe.
Post-match, Daniel Farke expected a ligament issue for Stach, with assessment to follow this week. Joe Rodon also departed with an ankle problem and was replaced by Sebastiaan Bornauw. Noah Okafor went off late and, after his recent hamstring lay-off, the issue appeared to be cramp.
