Anton Stach has been omitted from Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad, despite a positive initial outlook on his ankle injury.

He sustained what appeared to be a cut around the ankle in the victory against Brighton and Hove Albion, after an awkward tangle with an opponent. Stach attempted to continue but was carried off on a stretcher, with heavy bleeding visible through his sock.

Julian Nagelsmann named his squad on Thursday morning.

The 27-year-old returned to the national set-up in March, playing 10 minutes in the 4-3 win over Switzerland, his first involvement since June 2022.
