Jonathan Tah is heading to the 2026 World Cup with a lot of confidence. The FC Bayern centre-back is one of the top performers for the German national team under head coach Julian Nagelsmann and has high hopes for the DFB team at the tournament in North America. The 30-year-old has now sent a clear message ahead of the dress rehearsal against the USA
After the new start under Nagelsmann and the positive impression made at the 2024 European Championship at home, Germany will travel to the World Cup with high expectations. Even though many experts do not consider the DFB team to be among the favourites, Tah is much more optimistic about the starting position
In an interview with the DFB-Journal, the new FC Bayern signing made it clear that he believes his team is fundamentally capable of winning the title
„Anything is possible for us,“ explained the centre-back with a view to the tournament. For Tah, success depends above all on whether the team finds its rhythm early on and develops a positive dynamic. „We have a team that can achieve anything if it gets into the flow, if it gets momentum,“ emphasised the Bayern professional
With players such as Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Joshua Kimmich, Michael Olise, Kai Havertz and Lennart Karl, Germany have plenty of individual quality

Despite his confidence, however, Tah warns against relying solely on individual class. „There are nations that are perhaps a little better than us in terms of names,“ admitted the defender
For him, the overall structure of a team is much more decisive
„But I don’t think it’s the names that count in the end when it comes to winning a tournament. It’s more about the cohesion, the spirit in the team. And that’s why anything is possible for us.“
Tah’s assessment also harks back to the experience of the 2024 European Championship, when the German team impressed above all with its team spirit and unity
Although the tournament ended in the quarter-finals against Spain, there was a sense of euphoria around the national team that had been missing for a long time
It is precisely this feeling that the team would now like to develop again at the World Cup
The tournament is likely to have a special significance for Tah himself, as the central defender goes into the World Cup as one of the most experienced players in the DFB squad following his move to FC Bayern
He already formed the central defense together with Nico Schlotterbeck in the test match against Finland, and there are many indications that this duo will also be trusted by Nagelsmann in the World Cup opener against Curaçao
Should Germany actually go far, Tah will play a central role. His leadership qualities, his calmness on the ball and his international experience make him an important building block for the DFB team’s title dreams.
