Arnau Tenas grasped his chance with a second straight league start as Villarreal beat Celta Vigo 2-1 at Estadio de la Cerámica. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the goalkeeper stood out after months of quiet work in the background.
He had started the 1-1 draw at Real Oviedo’s Carlos Tartiere, then kept his place on Sunday for a victory that underlined Villarreal’s Champions League push.
Tenas saved Borja Iglesias’s first penalty, only for a retake to be ordered because Rafa Marín had entered the area. Iglesias converted at the second attempt for 2-1, narrowing the margin and forcing Villarreal to see it out.
Tenas later voiced his satisfaction, stressing the collective effort and that he always aims to give his best. He accepted the retake as part of football and felt the team performed well from start to finish.
He reflected on a testing season spent waiting for an opportunity, saying he works day to day and is pleased to have started the last two matches while determined to keep pushing. He added that he feels settled and happy at the club.
Cautious on targets, he called Champions League qualification virtual for now and wants it confirmed mathematically by continuing to win. Marcelino praised Tenas’s distribution, assurance in the air and speed, noting consistent standards in training.
