But the Dutchman is unable to generate consistent performances and results in his second season in the hotseat.
His future could now hinge on re-qualification for the Champions League - no easy task with Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa all in store before the end of the season.
The 47-year-old could also stave off the criticism coming his way with a trophy win and Liverpool are still fighting for the Champions League and FA Cup.
They are behind 1-0 to Galatasaray in the CL’s round of 16 and face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Football Insider is now claiming that an end-of-season audit is set to be conducted by sporting director Richard Hughes which will decide Slot’s fate.
It’s unlikely that FSG will take any action before the end of the season but the head coach - contracted to 2027 - could be facing an early exit if things don’t pick up fast.
“The pressure has been on Slot for a while now, results, performances have not been good enough,” the report reads.
“He really needs a strong end to the season to really boost his chances of keeping that job on a long-term basis.
“It’s a difficult time for Slot, but I don’t think any result next week against Galatasaray will have an immediate impact on his future.
“At end of the season, I’m sure there will be a review and maybe then a decision might be made on his future.”
Liverpool are facing a crucial Champions League showdown with Turkish giants Galatasaray at Anfield on Wednesday. And following the drab game against Spurs - which provoked a hugely negative reaction inside the ground - Slot cannot afford another big slip-up.
“It’ll definitely ramp up the pressure on him, whether it’ll have a direct influence on a decision to be made on his future before the end of the season, I don’t think so,” the report reads.
“He’s got a bit of credit in the bank and obviously the goal is now to try and end the season with some silverware. Then it’s all about finishing in that top five for the Champions League.”
