Jamie Carragher has called Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur an ‘absolute disaster’ for the club’s Champions League hopes.

Liverpool lost ground in the Champions League race after being held to a draw at Anfield. The Reds led through Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick but struggled to net a second, before conceding a late equaliser as Richarlison rescued a result for Spurs.

Tottenham arrived into the game on a six-game losing run, while the North Londoners have not won in the Premier League in 2026.

Despite starting as strong favourites, Liverpool blew the chance to capitalise on defeats for Champions League rivals Aston Villa and Chelsea. Carragher called the result for his former side a ‘disaster’ in the circumstances.

“It was coming, I’ve been saying all second half. They have been sleepwalking. It was always going to be Richarlison, he has been Tottenham’s most dangerous player,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Liverpool don’t challenge for a long, hopeful ball and I’m not sure where Van Dijk is going. Liverpool were all over the place. I can’t say that Tottenham don’t deserve it. It has been coming. So obvious.

“This is an absolute disaster in terms of Champions League qualification. With Aston Villa and Man Utd playing each other, someone was going to drop points. If there was anyone you would want to play it would be Tottenham, but they have made Spurs look a decent team, a side that could stay up.”
