Arne Slot has faced plenty of criticism at Anfield this season, but it looks as though the Dutchman is here to stay.
Despite poor results and performances from his team this season, Slot reportedly still has backers in the Liverpool hierarchy and will continue to lead the squad heading into the next campaign.
The head coach has himself confirmed that he is involved in Liverpool’s recruitment planning ahead of the summer.
Slot has made his mark on the Reds already, moving the team away from the style of Jurgen Klopp and leading the club into a transition period, and that is set to continue.
A feature of Slot’s Liverpool side has been the heavy presence of Dutch nationals.
Only one of the Reds’ current Dutch contingent was added under Slot, but Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong all feature in the boss’ preferred XI.
Plenty of other Dutch nationals have been linked with Merseyside moves in the last two years, and now three more appear to be on their way to Anfield.
The Times have reported a renewed interest in right-back Denzel Dumfries in a reported £22 million deal, whilst Sport Witness are claiming a move for Teun Koopmeiners could also be on the cards this summer.
As well as the two Netherlands internationals, Liverpool have also been heavily linked with a move for Dutch coach Etiënne Reijnen in the last week, with Slot’s former employee rumoured to be on his way to Anfield.
The Dutch influence at Anfield is already clear to see. Many of the head coach’s existing staff are his compatriots and if Dumfries and Koopmeiners were added then over half of the starting XI would be Dutch.
It has been seen before, Gerard Houllier added French players, Rafa Benitez Spanish, but it has never been seen on this level.
If all three Dutchmen are added it is a sure sign that the hierarchy at Liverpool back Slot to remain at the club beyond the expiry of his contract in June 2027 and will further expand the head coach’s influence at the club.
