Arsenal have confirmed the winner of their Player of the Month award for January, with Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes earning the accolade.
The decision was a close thing, with Gabriel receiving 37% of the votes to put him marginally ahead of Declan Rice. But it’s hard to argue that the centre-back didn’t put the hard work in to earn the award after playing every single minute of every match all month.
Gabriel scored against Manchester United and netted via a deflection off Dominic Solanke against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as helping the team to clean sheets against GNK Dinamo and Wolves – despite being down to 10 men.

Arsenal write that this is Gabriel’s fifth Player of the Month award with the club since joining, putting only Bukayo Saka, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, and Santi Cazorla ahead of him.
Despite being out injured for a significant portion of this season, Saka has already given his own tally a very healthy boost by winning the award in August, October, and November.
Fellow injured forward Gabriel Jesus won the award in December, meaning David Raya (September) is the only former winner this season who is still fit for matches.
