Arsenal & PSG punished for fan behaviour at CL final | OneFootball

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have each received punishments for the actions of their supporters during the Champions League final, though the Gunners’ punishment is relatively light.

Tom Canton reports for Football.London that both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have been punished for supporter behaviour during the Champions League final in May.

PSG were given a €10,875 fine for throwing objects, and an €80,000 fine for the lighting of fireworks.

PSG have also been handed a suspended one-game ban from selling tickets to away supporters, with the ban only becoming active if the club commit further offences during their probationary period of the next two years.

By comparison, Arsenal’s punishment isn’t nearly as bad. The Gunners have also been sanctioned for throwing objects, but the fine only amounts to €1,500. There’s no ban for the Arsenal offences, suspended or otherwise.

Though the punishments are significantly different, they do seem proportionate.

The fireworks and objects thrown from the PSG end were clear on multiple occasions, whereas most fans probably weren’t even aware that any Arsenal fan had thrown anything to incur a punishment.

Arsenal will be back in the Champions League again this season, hoping to finally win the competition. The Gunners have reached the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final in the last three seasons consecutively, so they’re certainly heading in the right direction.
