Santos have opened the week hopeful of confirming three reinforcements for coach Cuca, Arthur, Rodinei and Emerson Palmieri. According to Globo.com, Arthur is closest after completing medical tests, and he could be confirmed on Monday.

Rodinei and Emerson have agreements moving towards completion, and they are discussing releases with their respective clubs. Santos remain optimistic, but will only confirm the pair if there are no transfer costs.

Rodinei, 34, has a contract with Olympiacos in Greece until the middle of next year, and is expected to terminate it. Emerson, 32, is tied to Olympique de Marseille until July 2027, and hopes to secure a release early this week.

Cuca has kept a cautious line. He praised Arthur’s dynamism and said the midfielder would help, but declined to discuss the others, stressing that any talks are for the board. He wants reinforcements, yet will value the players already in the squad.

After beating Corinthians 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, Santos now turn to Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday at 21:30 Brasília time, at Vila Belmiro. To progress, Cuca’s side must win by four goals after a 3-0 first-leg defeat away.
