Aston Villa are taking their bid to register £10 million teenage signing Brian Madjo to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the club are appealing a FIFA ruling, with a CAS hearing scheduled for 1 July in Switzerland. Madjo has been in limbo since joining from Metz six months ago after FIFA said he could not be registered before his 18th birthday in January next year.

FIFA rejected his registration on the basis he was arriving from an overseas club. Under international transfer regulations, that makes him ineligible to play until he turns 18, so he has not featured for any Villa side.

Villa’s attempt to register him was dismissed despite the forward being born in England. He grew up in Luxembourg, has been capped by their senior team, and has also represented England at youth level.

He has trained with the first team at Bodymoor Heath since his arrival. As things stand, he will not be permitted to play in matches until midway through next season.
