Spurs continue bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League

Tottenham moved out of the Premier League relegation zone after beating Aston Villa on Sunday evening. Spurs were handed a big incentive on Saturday with West Ham losing away at Brentford, thus missing the chance to move five points clear of their London rivals before kick-off at Villa Park.

Then facing a Villa side with one eye on next week’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, the stage was set for Tottenham and they grabbed the moment with both hands. Conor Gallagher broke the deadlock inside 12 minutes with a stunning strike from range, scoring his first Spurs goal since arriving from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window.

Richarlison, in for the injured Dominic Solanke, doubled Tottenham’s lead before the half hour mark as he headed home a fantastic Mathys Tel cross. Emiliano Buendia pulled a goal back in stoppage time but it was too little too late as Villa slumped to a third straight loss in all competitions.
