Manchester United and Atalanta have been negotiating for Ederson in recent weeks. Only the finishing touches are missing before the player heads to England for the medicals and the deal is announced, Sky reports.
The Bergamaschi and the Red Devils are finalizing a €45M package. The Brazilian will ink a five-year contract with €5M wages and a €5M signing bonus. La Dea took the sale to the last possible window. His pact with them would have expired next year.
Ederson is on the brink of moving to Manchester United following four remarkable seasons at Atalanta. He recorded 16 goals and 6 assists in 180 appearances in Bergamo. Salernitana brought him to Italy from Fortaleza in 2022.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the 26-year-old will be the Nerazzurri’s fifth-largest sale ever after Rasmus Hojlund, Mateo Retegui, Teun Koopmeiners, and Cristian Romero. The midfielder, who had been angling to leave in the previous two windows, seemed destined to join Atletico Madrid. However, they backed out of the deal due to its costs, and the Red Devils successfully swooped in.
It’d be nice if La Dea got to a point where they manage to hold onto their top players to become a real juggernaut, but it’s a rather reluctant exit in this case. They couldn’t wait any longer, given his contractual situation. It’s unsurprising that he’s moving to the Premier League, so both he and his side can obtain the maximum earnings possible. Yet, it’s a bit dispiriting for the state of Serie A that a couple of teams that are looking for help in the midfield didn’t even try because they already knew they were priced out.
