Barcelona are not having things their own way in their bid to sign Julian Alvarez as their new starting striker. Atletico Madrid insist that the Argentina international will not be sold, but on the back of him publicly expressed his desire to leave during comments to the media last week, they have been left very unhappy.

But rather than feeling this way towards Alvarez, Atleti have directed their fury at Barcelona. Specifically, they have accused the the Catalan club of “pressuring and harassing” their player, and within 24 hours of the public declarations last week, it was reported that they intended to file an official complaint to FIFA regarding the matter.

And on Tuesday, Atleti’s complaint was officially sent to FIFA, and also the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as per Diario AS. They have made it clear that they see Barcelona as guilty, with their intention being for punishment to be sought.

Complaint unlikely to come to anything

However, the report from Diario AS goes on to say that it’s very unlikely for no action to be taken by either governing body. Both see the matter as a simple dispute between clubs, and thus, no wrongdoing has been seen to have been conducted by Barcelona.

Atleti’s case has caused little reaction within Barcelona, with club officials only more determined to seal an agreement in the wake of Alvarez’s comments. The plan is for a new offer to be tabled once the 2026 World Cup over, and should they get their way, a deal could be finalised in time for the 26-year-old to join before the start of the 2026-27 season.
