Atlético Madrid are closing in on strengthening the left flank, moving for Alejandro Grimaldo after a bid for Marc Cucurella fell through.
According to Nicolò Schira, the club are finalising a deal to sign the Bayer Leverkusen left-back for around 12 million euros.
The 30-year-old Valencian would return to Spanish football having established himself abroad, first at Benfica and then at Leverkusen, where he became one of the Bundesliga side’s standout performers.
His arrival would fit Atlético’s plan to bolster the position with experience, attacking thrust and set-piece threat. Diego Simeone regards adding a reliable left-back as a priority for next season.
If the final details are agreed, Grimaldo would be among Atlético’s first reinforcements for the new campaign, bringing international experience and a proven profile in domestic and European competition.
