El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Real Madrid submitted a 150 million euros bid for Julián Álvarez, which Atlético Madrid rejected, with both clubs setting out their positions publicly on Tuesday.

The move followed Florentino Pérez’s on-air pledge last week on Horizonte that, if re-elected, he would table at least 150 million euros for a player from a Champions side, not from the Premier League, ruling out Olise, Doku and Haaland. Attention had shifted to Vitinha and Joao Neves, both at PSG, yet the bid targeted Atlético’s forward.

Madrid confirmed an offer of 150 million euros for Álvarez’s federative rights, while Atlético declined and referred to the buyout clause, framing the exchange within cordial relations between the clubs.

Atlético then mocked the note on X, first with emojis, then with a brief post listing four points, including that they had neither studied nor valued any bid, that they did not offer thanks, a joke about a truncated video of the Pope, and a line that Madrid make them laugh even more than Barcelona. A postscript urged Madrid to stop taking players from their academy.

Álvarez’s release clause stands at 500 million euros. It remains to be seen whether Madrid pursue the matter further.
