Atlético see Almada price rise as Flamengo interest pressures River | OneFootball

Flamengo's move for Thiago Almada has shifted Atlético Madrid's stance, turning a seemingly straightforward sale into a bidding contest.

According to La Colina De Nervion, River are the only club to lodge a formal bid, about €20 million for 50 percent of the Argentina international's economic rights, mirroring Atlético's 2025 deal.

Flamengo have intensified talks with Almada's camp but have not filed a formal offer at the Metropolitano. A figure above €26 million has circulated, though it is not confirmed. A second suitor prevents River negotiating without competition.

Atlético paid roughly €21 million for 50 percent of Almada in 2025. He signed through 30 June 2030, so there is no contract clock to beat.

River's proposal would recover almost all of that initial outlay. If Flamengo convert interest into a higher bid, Atlético could sell above the purchase price after one season.

That would not automatically mean a clean profit. The final balance depends on amortisation, commissions, bonuses and the specific terms attached to the player's rights. The advantage now is the ability to weigh competing offers against the club's valuation.

Signed as an option for attacking midfield and the flanks, Almada did not become an undisputed starter under Diego Simeone. He played 40 games in 2025/26 and scored four goals. In LaLiga he made 27 appearances, started 16, logged 1,312 minutes and struck three times.

The next step hinges on Flamengo putting numbers on paper and on the player's choice. Until then, Atlético see no reason to rush while interest remains alive.
