Konrad Laimer appears prepared to lower his contract demands following a break in negotiations with Bayern Munich.

The Austrian footballer had initially signalled he would only be prepared to extend his stay in Bavaria with a significant pay rise.

This was believed to be in excess of €15m [£12.9m] – a figure FC Bayern were staunchly opposed to meeting.

Bayern hope to extend Konrad Laimer’s contract

Bayern and Laimer have since held talks over the No.27’s future at Säbener Straße.

“There was a lot of silence last month! The last meeting was in December 2025, but now there has been another meeting to discuss Konrad Laimer’s contract,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“Now, the Austrian has shown that perhaps he won’t be looking for so much money as he was in the first round of talks.

“For him, it would be nice and important to stay at Bayern Munich. The midfielder-turned-right-back’s family isn’t far away; they live in Salzburg. He has a house in Salzburg that’s about an hour and a half to two hours away from Munich. So, he would like to stay at Bayern Munich.”

The Bundesliga star has significant ties to the surrounding area.

Not to mention the fact he finds himself featuring frequently for one of Europe’s elite outfits – a side that was a semi-final victory over European champions PSG away from reaching the Champions League final.

How many of Europe’s elite could afford, or would be willing to afford, Laimer’s exceptional salary demands to prise him from Munich?

The list would seem to be especially slim.

Laimer is willing to lower his salary demands

No one can deny that the former RB Leipzig star has set himself apart with his performances this term.

A pay rise is most certainly deserved, and it’s reassuring that both parties appear able to progress talks over an updated contract.

“To make that happen, he’d be happy with a salary that isn’t as high as what was discussed in the first round of talks,” Falk continued.

“That said, Laimer is still looking for more money than what he’s currently on. So, the talks will go on. But today, it doesn’t seem as impossible for Bayern to keep him.”

What numbers would appeal to both sides remains to be seen. However, if we’re taking the current squad wage bill as a benchmark, it seems unlikely that decision-makers at Bayern would be prepared to offer a salary in excess of what Kim Min-jae and Jonathan Tah (€12m) are earning.

On that basis, one might reasonably venture that the €10m-12m range will be the point of discussion.

Which is still a potentially sizeable increase for one of Bayern’s strongest performers this term.
