Flamengo president Bap has taken aim at FIFA’s compensation scheme for clubs with World Cup call-ups, ahead of the tournament. FIFA set a payment of 5,000 dollars per day per player, capped at 25 days.
"Few clubs face problems because many do not have so many players called up. So there is no sense of solidarity among clubs on the matter, not even in the criterion for financial compensation."
"Look, 5,000 dollars per day with a cap of 25 days for use of your asset. You do not have the right to opine on your asset’s remuneration. And these amounts will only be paid in December," he told UOL.
Flamengo have nine players at this World Cup, which will bring the club about R$ 225,000 per day. Despite Bap’s frustration, the Rio side are set to earn more than any other Brazilian club from the mechanism.
For Brazil, Flamengo have four players called up, Danilo, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro and Lucas Paquetá. Arrascaeta, De La Cruz and Varela are with Uruguay. Plata and Carrascal have been named by Ecuador and Colombia respectively.
