Juan Hernandez has emerged as one of the most promising performers in the early parts of the new season for FC Barcelona’s reserve team, Barça Atletic.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, a product of La Masia, is held in high regard within the club and is now continuing to impress week after week, with a goal and an assist from four games in the RFEF Second Division.
Now, according to SPORT, Hernandez’s agent met with Barcelona officials to begin talks about a renewal.
The teenage talent’s current contract with the club runs until June 2026, and his importance within the squad is unquestionable.
When he turned 18, a €6 million release clause was automatically activated. Several clubs considered triggering it, but the player always prioritised staying in Barcelona to pursue his dream.
The youngster started the pre-season this past summer with the first team, but was ultimately left out of the tour of Asia by Hansi Flick.
Now, under Juliano Belletti, Hernandez has become the team’s metronome in midfield and a key figure in the reserve side, after excelling under the Brazilian with the Juvenil A setup last season, helping win the treble.
Given his performances after a step-up to the reserve team, Barcelona are eager to secure Hernandez’s future and renew his contract. They are extremely satisfied with the midfielder’s progress and view him as a cornerstone of the reserve team’s project.
Negotiations are still in an early phase, but the atmosphere between both parties is positive. Several details remain to be finalised before a full agreement is reached, but there is no rush.
