FC Barcelona began this summer in some style as they quickly and surprisingly completed the transfer of the winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. After that, there has been some lull in their transfer market activity, but the Blaugrana sporting department continues to work on several more operations behind the scenes.
Now, a few days before the start of the summer transfer window, they have completed another signing. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Catalan club today officially announced the signing of the young Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim on a 3-year contract, for a fee of €1.5 million plus add-ons.
Having spent the last season on loan at Barcelona, the Catalans had already decided to exercise the purchase clause on him, and his signing was a foregone conclusion, held up only because of some bureaucratic problems.
During the last season, which he spent with the Blaugrana club’s youth and reserve teams, he impressed quite a lot with his performances, convincing not only Barcelona to keep him permanently, but also the Egyptian national team manager, Hossam Hassan, to call him up for the World Cup 2026.
In fact, he has already played in both of the two games that his side has played so far, including in the win against New Zealand, which was the first ever win for the North African side in a World Cup.
For now his transfer to Barcelona, from Al-Hilal, has been confirmed but it remains to be seen in which team he would play. Depending on when his World Cup campaign ends, he could be a part of the preseason training camp with the Barcelona first team under Hansi Flick. After that, he can either return to play with the reserve team, or if he ends up impressing the German coach, remain a part of the first team for the next season.
