Barcelona’s recovery session on Sunday carried a small talking point as Andreas Christensen was absent, with SPORT reporting that the Danish defender was given rest after experiencing slight general discomfort.
Importantly, it is not considered an injury setback, but rather a precautionary measure from Hansi Flick and his staff.
The squad regrouped at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper following the hard-fought win over Levante on Saturday night.
The session itself was light in nature, designed mainly for recovery after the intensity of a match that demanded effort until the very last moments.
Flick, conscious of managing his players carefully at the start of a long season, preferred to keep Christensen at home rather than risk any unnecessary strain.

Christensen’s situation, in this case, is more about careful planning than concern. The centre-back, who came on in the final quarter of an hour against Levante, showed positive signs on his return to official action.
In his short spell on the pitch, he was composed and efficient – touching the ball 23 times, completing 20 of his 22 passes, winning all three duels he contested, and even making a key clearance.
Flick brought him in place of Ronald Araujo, and the Dane immediately slotted in with calm authority. For a player who endured a frustrating campaign last season due to recurring injuries, this was an encouraging step forward.
Barcelona’s defensive depth will be crucial this year, with fixtures across multiple competitions piling up.
Add to it Inigo Martinez’s exit and Christensen becomes even more important for the team.
Christensen’s careful reintroduction suggests Flick wants him fully fit and available for the bigger battles ahead, rather than risking another untimely setback. For now, the message from Barcelona is simple – precaution, not alarm.
